Convention Pins
I started making pins in 2003 for the 25th anniversary ArmadilloCon.
That first year I made pins for all the returning guests since it was the
a special year for our con. The pin was made from Creative
Paperclay and two handmade stamps.
This
was the design for that first year. I was very proud of the stamp that
I created, a spaceman on an armadillo. It is pretty challenging carving a
stamp out of an eraser if you want any details at all. The chalk shading added
a richness to the piece which I didn't really expect.
The next year I was in my shrink plastic funk, everything I
made was out of shrink plastic! I don't have a picture of those pins, but
will get one soon. These were two layers of shrink plastic, a yellow background
and
a red
armadillo.
The armadillo was hand drawn and was outlined in Sharpie. This is probably
the easiest pins to make, all you need is a drawing of what you want on
the pin then trace that design over and over and over and over again (you
get the idea).
After
the shrink plastic period was over, (and boy was I glad it was over!) I made
some pins out of bottle caps and resin. This picture shows the image before
the resin was added, since it is hard to get a good picture with the glare
from the glassy surface. These pins were sought after due to the fact I apparently
did not make enough of them. At the end of the convention I didn't even get
to keep one.
Each pin style has it's own page on how it was made. If you
have any questions I love to help out!
