Convention Pins: Bottle Cap Pins
Pitcure shows one that isn't poured, due to glare of the resin.
Supplies:
Bottle Caps
Scissors
Resin
Image you want on the pin, 3/4 inch wide
Blow torch (oooh baby)
Pin Backs
Glue (E6000)
There are images you can buy out there that now fit in a bottle
cap top. I generally make a collage of images as seen above. The armadillo
is a different piece than the one with the writing under it. The writing
piece I took a Shiner Bock lid, scanned it in, then scratched out all the
logo in Photoshop and added the text.
Print out the elements that will be seen in the bottlecap. Cut
them to fit. Then with a little white glue, glue them to the bottle cap.
Let dry.
Mix the resin according to the package. Pour the resin to cover
the image, but not to the brim of the lid so it doesn't spill.
Tap the bottle cap to get any air bubbles out between the art
and the bottlecap.
Time for the blow torch! Slightly skim the surface of the torch
over the piece to get any bubbles. Do this two to three times, waiting
a few minutes between each pass. Let the resin set over night.
Tada!
